DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The Singing Priest began for me in 2016, when I first encountered the extraordinary story of Fr Rob Galea. What struck me was not simply his music or his public profile, but the depth of his journey — a young man shaped by hardship, faith, and an unshakeable desire to help others. I knew immediately that his story carried the emotional weight and cinematic truth of a feature film.
Over the years, the project evolved through different stages, teams and working titles, but the heart of the film never changed. It remained a story about redemption, purpose and the quiet courage required to rebuild a life. In returning to the original concept, I wanted to create a film that honours the real man behind the headlines — not a myth, not a documentary portrait, but a human being whose struggles and triumphs resonate far beyond the Church.
My goal as a director was to blend authenticity with cinematic storytelling: real locations, real emotion, and a visual language that reflects both the intimacy of personal struggle and the scale of spiritual transformation. The Singing Priest is ultimately a film about hope — the kind that emerges slowly, honestly, and often through pain. It is a story I felt compelled to tell, and one I hope audiences will feel deeply.
